If you can't beat them, join them

As I write this blogpost from my car on a Saturday morning (whilst my daughter does hockey training) I am struck by how precious our time is and how our lives are made up of windows and pockets of time.

I’m not sure if it’s because I have 4 children, or if it’s because I am the chauffeur for their busy social lives and extracurricular activities, or if it’s just the curse of modern life, but there never seems to be enough time. And we want to do it all don’t we?! We put pressure on ourselves as mums to cook meals from scratch, bake fancy birthday cakes, organise elaborate birthday parties, read the latest novel and go to a book club, watch the latest Netflix series, listen to all the podcasts….i could go on and on but ultimately we only have 24 hours in the day and of which we are told we should be getting 7-9 hours sleep and so that only leaves about 16 hours to get anything done! Now 16 hours may sound like a lot but when you break it down into windows of time for working, driving / commuting, cooking, eating, cleaning up and ALL the life admin, there’s not a lot of time left!

"Twenty-four hours is never enough for a busy person and way too much for somebody with nothing to do” Kathie Lee Gifford

So Natalie, if time is precious why have you decided to add this blog to your juggle?

Well after a 9 year career in Finance, 11 years of parenting under my belt and 9 years experience of being an Army wife (which involved lots of moving around), I decided in 2022 to train to become a baby massage instructor. I felt this was a gentle way of easing me back into the world of work and also a good starting platform for developing a business where I could help mums. I have always had a regret that I never considered becoming a doctor until it was too late and I have this yearning to help.

This Is Precious Time (TIPT) is my space for passing on lessons and skills I have learnt through my journey of being a mother and homemaker. Through my baby massage classes I get to meet and engage with new mums and therefore keep a hand in the baby world that I so love. Writing this blog gives me a platform to write long-form content and is also pushing myself outside of my comfort zone of working with numbers! I used to fear the digital world for my children but I have come to terms with the fact that it’s here to stay therefore I need to be better equipped at understanding it. Like the saying goes,

"If you can't beat them. Join them"

Plus by setting myself the challenge of only writing a 500 word blog each week, I figure it won’t take up too much of my time writing it, or your time reading it!

I hope you enjoy and stick around for the journey.

Love Natalie x
